The Grade One students are continuing to show that they are caring global citizens. This month our class will be fundraising to Gift A Goat. We will be donating a milking goat to an orphanage in Eldoret, Kenya. This will provide much needed milk to the over twenty children who call this orphanage home. We will be selling hotdogs on Wednesday, May 8th. The cost of the hotdogs is $2 each. There will also be a
bucket at the office if you would like to donate to our fundraiser.

The children have also expressed a desire to give the orphanage children some toys. If you would like to donate towards purchasing soccer balls, dolls, or other small toys, please send your donation to the office marked Grade One Kenya Fundraiser.  (If you would like to donate please send to Spirit River Regional Academy, Bag 2500, 4501-46 St, Spirit River, Alberta)

Our class has also decided to write a book for the children at the orphanage.
I will be taking this book, along with the other gifts and cards to Hope Homes International in Eldoret, Kenya in July.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.
Along with your children, you are making an amazing difference in the lives of
beautiful children who have lost their parents to conflict and disease.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Anna Shura
and the Fabulous Grade One Class

Craig Kielburger presented at our Teacher's Convention this year. The evening before the convention Craig spoke to teachers, parents and students. What an amazing human being!

At the age of twelve he was inspired to "be the change." He was inspired by the death of a child activist who had educated many about the harsh conditions of child slavery.
For more information you can go to one of the webpages associated with his foundations at Me to We or Free the Children.

The month of March is a great month to "fill someone's bucket." Our grade one students have listened to the story "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?" The challenge this month is to be a "bucket filler" and not a "bucket dipper." There are some great activities and resources available to parents and teachers on the webpage. Have an awesome month! Feel free to leave a comment on our page.

Love is in the air! This month our grade one class is embarking on an exciting challenge. We are attempting to collect one hundred, random acts of kindness. This challenge is open to all students, staff and the parents of Spirit River Regional Academy. The challenge is to do random acts of kindness throughout the whole month of February. If we catch someone doing a random act of kindness we will write the act on a heart shape piece of paper. We will be discussing with our students what a true Random Act of Kindness looks like. All of these hearts will be displayed on a bulletin board outside of the grade one classroom. At the end of the month we will count all of the ways we have shown others that we care. Thank you for caring, The Grade One Class

I am so excited to begin this adventure! A journey begins with a single step. This is the first step. The Global Heartfelt project is just in the baby stages. I hope as you witness the path we are attempting to navigate, you will feel free to come alongside the group, give suggestions, ask questions, and maybe learn something new. I hope that this project will touch many hearts, opening them up to the smallest possibility that we can touch another's heart in a measurable way, and see our children grow up to be compassionate leaders in this world. As the days and the project unfolds this year, we will post additional information. Thank you, Anna :0)
